The Bowel Motility Trainer (BMT) is a medical device invented and used by a colostomate, Michael Playdon, in the last seven years as a tool to stimulate his peristalsis and empty his bowel. Michael initially contacted the D4D Healthcare Technology Co-operative, who passed it on to Enteric.
We assessed the device for patient safety and found that it was suitable for evaluation. Initial steps were also been taken to identify potential commercial partners for manufacture and distribution, should the device be shown to be beneficial in use.
We received an expression of interest from a UK manufacturer and two focus groups were organised in the second half of 2011.
The device is currently under evaluation.
